NATIONAL University needed to regroup late in the game and outwork Ateneo, 25-17, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19, in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan on Sunday.
Myla Pablo finished with 16 points, while siblings Dindin and Jaja Satiago along with Ivy Perez added 13 for the Lady Bulldogs, who stretched their winning streak to seven and remained in second place with a 9-1 slate.
"Nagpapadala kasi sila sa pressure, ang sabi ko sa kanila relax lang at ibalik ang focus," said NU coach Edjet Mabbayad.
The Lady Bulldogs failed to protect a 20-17 lead in the third set as they allowed Alyssa Valdez and Amy Ahomiro to take charge and give the Lady Eagles the chance to extend the game.
Trailing by 4-8, the Lady Bulldogs silenced the Lady Eagles with a 7-0 run to retake the lead, 11-8, half way in the fourth, before coming through with four consecutive points to close out the match.
"Kanina nga sa fourth set muntik na naman mawala buti naagapan, sabi ko relax, concentrate lang sila," said Mabbayad.
Valdez produced 16 markers while Ahomiro contributed 15 as the Lady Eagles dropped to 6-4 overall.
