ANGELA Benting carried Adamson to a 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 22-25, 15-13, victory over erstwhile undefeated National University at the start of their best-of-three semifinal series in the Shakey's V-League First Conference at Philsports Arena in Pasig on Tuesday.
Guest player Benting came away with 28 points for the underdog Lady Falcons, capping her heroics with the service ace that sealed the stunning victory over a Lady Bulldogs side that had swept its games in the eliminations and quarterfinals.
"Maganda talaga ang nilaro ni Angela kasi prepared siya araw-araw," said Adamson coach Sherwin Meneses after the five-set thriller that took one hour, 39 minutes to finish. "Since kinuha namin siya lagi na siya nagpapakundisyon."
With the game tied with one set apiece, the Lady Falcons' reinforcement exploded with eight points in the third, including three straight points, to give Adamson a comfortable five-point lead, 10-5.
National U bounced back in the fourth led behind sisters Dindin and Jaja Santiago who foiled Benting's three attacks to lead the surge that sent the match to a deciding fifth set.
Trailing by five, 4-9, the biggest margin in the fifth set, the Lady Falcons countered with a 7-1 run behind Benting's four attacks.
Bhebs Pineda finished with 18 points for Adamson, which now leads the series, 1-0.
