UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help and San Sebastian turned back their respective opponents to stay unbeaten in the 89th NCAA women's beach volleyball tournament at White Beach, Puerto Galera on Thursday.

The two-time reigning Lady Altas leaned on the heroics of Jamela Suyat and Vhima Condada to beat the Emilio Aguinaldo College pair of Arianna Angustia and Marie Lorenzo in straight sets, 21-15, 21-19.

"Wala kaming depensa sa (second set), good thing nakabawi kami sa third set," said Condada, who played as libero in indoor games. "May pressure sa amin kasi goal namin ang maka-three-peat."

Perpetual Help was represented last year by Norie Jane Diaz and April Sartin.

The San Sebastian lady spikers, meanwhile, needed a decider to down Arellano University, 21-18, 19-21, 15-12.

Hard-hitting sophomore Gretchel Soltones delivered the goods for the Recto-based school, but it was veteran Czarina Bernano who won the joust against Elaine Sagun to win the match.

Angelica Legacion was the other half of the Lady Chiefs pair.

Perpetual Help and San Sebastian now share the lead on 4-0 cards.

Arellano comes in at second place with a 3-1 record, while San Beda, St. Benilde, Lyceum, and Letran follow with identical 2-2 slates.

Emilio Aguinaldo College is in fifth place (1-3) while Mapua and Jose Rizal University bring up the rear both at 0-4.
