La Salle's Galang, Marano share MVP honors

LAST year's top rookie Ara Galang was named co-MVP with Abi Marano, winner of the top individual award last season, of the UAAP Season 75 women’s volleyball tournament.

Galang and Marano led their team to a finals spot after finishing first place at the end of the eliminations with a 13-1 win-loss slate and defeating National University in the Final Four.

Marano was also named the Best Blocker of the tournament.

Alyssa Valdez and Jem Ferrer of La Salle's Finals rival Ateneo also won individual awards as they captured the Best Scorer and Best Setter awards, respectively.

National University won four awards with Myla Pablo voted the Best Attacker and Jennylyn Reyes named the Best Digger.

Reyes also took the Best Receiver trophy while Aiko Urdas came home with the Rookie of the Year award.

Adamson’s Shiela Marie Pineda was named Best Setter.

In the men’s side, La Salle’s Red Christensen and University of Santo Tomas’s Mark Gil Alfafara shared the MVP plum for the season.

Alfafara was also named the Best Blocker of the men’s tournament.

Other awardees were Ron Jay Galang of Adamson (Best Scorer), Peter Den Mar Torres of NU (Best Attacker), Arvin Avila of Far Eastern University (Best Server and Best Receiver), Carlo Almario of University of the East (Best Digger), Vincent Raphael Mangulabnan of NU (Best Setter), and Nikko Ramirez of Adamson (Rookie of the Year).
