LA SALLE made a match against arch-rival Ateneo look more like a workout in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
Aby Maraño finished with 10 points to lead the DLSU Lady Spikers to a 25-14, 25-14, 25-19 victory that improved their season win-loss record to 8-0 and extended their streak to 24 dating back to last season.
Mika Reyes and Cyd Demecillo had eight apiece and Ara Galang contributed seven for the Lady Spikers, who have yet to drop a set this season.
The Taft-based squad only needed 74 minutes to finish the match against its arch-rival, two minutes quicker than their first round meeting.
"Compared kasi sa first game medyo masama ang receiving nila ngayon so kontrolado (namin ang game)," said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus.
Already at match point, 24-16, the Lady Spikers had a late game scare from the Lady Eagles but Mika Esperanza won the joust against Michelle Morente to end the agony of Ateneo.
"Expected ko na 'yun (makakahabol ang Ateneo) kaya di na ako nagpalit ng tao," said de Jesus. "Alam ko 'yung Ateneo, wala na, malayo na ang score."
Alyssa Valdez was limited to just 10 points, her lowest in the season after an 11-point production in their first round meeting with La Salle a week ago.
Ateneo remained in third spot with a 5-3 record, but is far behind second-running NU (7-1).
