THREE-peat seeking La Salle overcame Far Eastern University, 25-17, 21-25, 16-25, 25-20, 15-5, on Sunday to secure at least a playoff for a spot in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Skipper Majoy Baron and Kim Dy finished with 18 markers apiece for the Lady Spikers, who tightened their hold on the No. 1 spot with an 8-2 win-loss card but left coach Ramil de Jesus dissatisfied with their performance.
“Makikita pa naman natin na hindi naman ganon kaganda lahat gumalaw, may mga unforced errors na nanggagaling sa setters, ’yung communication inside the court,” said the 10-time UAAP champion coach.
“And then hindi naman siguro lahat mape-perfect pero eventually may kulang pa. May mga times na bumababa ’yung self-confidence during the game so sabi ko di dapat ganun,” he added.
La Salle used a 6-0 run for a 13-4 lead after a Kim Dy service ace.
Des Cheng had 10 points, 16 digs and 10 excellent receptions for La Salle in the two-hours and 10-minute match.
Team captain Bernadeth Pons had 16 points and 12 excellent receptions for FEU, which slid to fourth at 6-4.
Toni Rose Basas added 12 points and Celine Domingo and Czarina Carandang each had 11 markers.
