DE La Salle-Lipa came away with a pair of straight-set victories over Colegio San Agustin to sweep the boys’ and girls’ crowns in the Toby’s Junior Volleyball League at the Quorum Sports Arena in Pasig City over the weekend.
The LS-Lipa spikers, led by MVP Ricardo Enginco, held off their CSA rivals, 25-20, 25-20, to pocket the boys title while their counterparts, headed by Regina Agatha Mangulabnan, pounded out a 25-20, 25-16 victory to clinch the girls’ plum in the event sponsored by Toby’s Sports, Shakey’s Pizza, and Mikasa and organized by Metro Sports.
Earlier, the La Salle-Lipa boys survived the Palanan Elementary School tossers in three sets, while CSA thwarted St. Joseph College in two to arrange the title duel.
For their part, the LS-Lipa girls routed Hope Christian High School, 25-10, 25-4, and CSA fended off MGC New Life Christian Academy, 25-22, 25-18, to seal the title clash.
Palanan outlasted St. Joseph, 25-21, 25-20, to cop third place in the boys’ category, while Hope Christian beat MGC, 25-28, 25-19, to finish third in the girls’ side.
Enginco also went on to bag the best blocker award to lead the Mythical Six, which included teammates Allan Christian Mayuga (best server) and Jan Frederick King Mangulabnan (best setter), Palanan’s Tony Viernes Jr. (best receiver), St. Joseph’s Noel Michael Kampton (best attacker) and CSA’s Ariel Morado Jr. (best digger). La Salle-Lipa’s Rosel Sumcad also took the best coach honors.
Mangulabnan also took the best attacker award in girls’ play to lead the Mythical team that included teammate Janel Maraguinot (best setter) and Justine Jazareno (best digger), CSA’s Dinta Vaswani (best server), Mercedes Lina Litton (best receiver) and Andreanna Pauleen Lagman (best blocker) with La Salle-Lipa’s Imelda Mendoza as best coach.
