TWO seasons of disappointments ended on Saturday when the Lady Spikers finally reclaimed the UAAP crown and coach Ramil de Jesus is glad their trials and hardships ended in triumph.
The Lady Spikers are back on top after two years when Ateneo, led by Alyssa Valdez, dominated the league.
The UAAP crown is back in Taft, their ninth title.
“Nakakatuwa kasi matagal na pinaghirapan ng mga bata ‘to,” said De Jesus. “Sobrang hirap ng pinagdaanan nila buong year. Sobrang daming pinagdaanan na trials.”
Graduating players Ara Galang, Mika Reyes, and Cyd Demecillo are champions again, thanks to a huge lift from rising star Kim Dy, who scored 17 points in the title clincher.
“Napakasarap para sa kanila kasi karamihan sa kanila mga seniors. Dami nilang pinagdaanan. Deserving talaga sila sa title na ‘to,” said De Jesus.
De Jesus said the seniors set the tone for La Salle’s preparation for Season 78, following their title defeat against Ateneo last year.
“Very proud ako sa kanila kasi after Season 77, nakita nila kung gaano kasakit matalo. Nag-exert sila ng training. Nakatatak sa puso nila ‘yung dapat nilang gawin. This year, hindi sila nagpatalo,” said De Jesus.
“Matagal naming hinintay ‘to,” he said.
