LA SALLE scored its sixth win in as many matches, downing Far Eastern University, 25-19, 25-17, 25-16, in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan on Sunday.
Ara Galang, who turned 19 on Saturday, poured in 18 points, while team captain Abi Maraño added 10 for the Lady Spikers in a match filled with stare downs and trash talking.
It was sort of a vengeance for the three-time defending champions after bowing to FEU in the Unigames held in Bacolod in October last year.
"Last Unigames kasi talo kami sa kanila," said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus. "Kaya sabi ko sa kanila alam na namin dapat ang mga mali namin."
De Jesus, who steered the Lady Spikers to seven titles in his 15 years as coach, reminded his players that they are no longer playing in the offseason.
"UAAP na ito eh, pumunta ka dito para gawin ang trabaho mo," he said.
Geneveve Casugod had eight points for FEU, while Marie Simborio added seven and rookie Bernadette Pons assed six and Mary Palma chipped in six.
The Lady Tams now hold a 2-3 record, tied with University of Santo Tomas for fifth spot.
