LA Salle made short work of winless University of the East, 25-12, 25-18, 25-20, on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan to sweep the first round of eliminations of the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament.
Ara Galang came up with 13 points for the Lady Spikers, while rookie Desiree Cheng added eight and skipper Aby Maraño had six as the three-time defending champions extended their winning streak to 23 dating back to last year.
"Ok lang at least 7-0," said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus as they ended the first round of elimination with a perfect slate. "Pero syempre hindi madaling gawin 'yun kailangan pa 'yung mistakes namin sa first round ay ma-workout."
Seldom-used Mika Esperanza, Carol Cerveza, Mary Baron, Kim Dy and Alex Tan combined for 12 points for the Taft-based squad.
"Nakita ko na medyo under control naman 'yung game kaya pinasok ko na sila," said de Jesus referring to his second stringers. "Binigyan ko na sila ng confidence para sakaling kailanganin sila may confidence na sila."
Sarina Bulan made 10 markers for UE, while Shaya Adorador addednine.
The Lady Warriors dropped to 0-7.
