DEFENDING champion La Salle tries to secure the first semifinal berth in the 75th UAAP women's volleyball tournament when it takes on Adamson at The Arena in San Juan on Wednesday.
After getting back at University of Santo Tomas for their first-round loss with a 30-28, 25-15, 25-19 victory over the Tigresses last Saturday, the top-seeded Lady Spikers look to extend their winning streak to nine games as they face the Lady Falcons at 3:30 p.m.
La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus remains wary of the Lady Falcons, who have their own winning run of three games, the last a 25-16, 25-14, 25-17 win over University of the East last Sunday. Adamson is in third spot with a 6-3 win-loss record.
"Maganda ang ginagalaw ng Adamson lately. Paghahandaan namin para maganda ang laban," said De Jesus.
For the San Marcelino-based Lady Falcons to continue their winning run, they would have to find a way to neutralize the Lady Spikers' towering frontliners.
"Mag-aadjust kami sa floor defense kasi malaki ang La Salle," said Adamson mentor Sherwin Meneses, who will lean on Pau Soriano, Shiela Pineda and Mayeth Zapanta to carry most of the load
"Sa ganoon makakasabay kami sa La Salle, yun na ang panlaban namin sa kanila."
Meanwhile, the UST Tigresses aim to bounce back from that straight-sets loss to La Salle when they battle the winless UE Lady Warriors at 2 o’clock.
Veterans Maika Ortiz and Maru Banaticla are expected to step up for the fifth-running España-based tossers, who are gunning for a sixth win in 10 games which would give them a share of the fourth place with Far Eastern University.
