LA Salle coach Ramil de Jesus rued a straight-set victory over two-time finals tormentor Ateneo last Saturday led to a lackluster showing against University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
“Siguro may factor pa ‘yun (panalo over Ateneo), baka medyo nasa cloud nine pa (ang team),” De Jesus said after the Lady Spikers' shockingly lopsided 21-25, 22-25, 21-25 loss to the Lady Tigresses.
Only Ara Galang and Mary Joy Baron finished in double figures with 15 and 10 points apiece for La Salle, with Mika Reyes only getting five markers and Kim Dy three in the losing effort against UST.
The Taft-based squad dropped to second spot in the standings with a 5-2 card, next to Ateneo (6-1) at the end of the first round of eliminations.
De Jesus and his entire team, though, immediately left the venue to find an available gym to practice.
UST bounced back from a previous loss to University of the Philippines, 19-25, 18-25, 25-16, 30-32, to end the first round with a 3-4 card for a three-way logjam with National University and Adamson.
