LA Salle romped to its 11th straight win, downing University of the Philippines, 25-15, 25-23, 25-12, on Saturday in the 76th UAAP women's volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Ara Galang had 17 points and team captain Aby Maraño added 11 for the Lady Spikers, who remained unbeaten in the season and secured a twice to beat advantage in the semifinals.
From a lopsided opening set, the Taft-based squad suddenly was made to work harder in the second as it fell to its biggest deficit in the season. UP put up a seven-point lead, 10-3, in the second set, before La Salle rallied to take the set.
"Nakuha kasi nila 'yung first set ng mabilis kaya nag-overconfident sa second set," said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus.
But the many-time champion coach is not thinking of an elimination sweep, yet.
"Hindi ko naman iniisip ang sweep, peo mas maganda kung thrice-to-beat," he said.
Angeli Araneta and Katherine Bersola made 11 and 10 each for UP, which dropped to 1-10.
