KUNGFU Reyes is thrilled to finally see Dimdim Pacres pull her weight for the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses.
Hardly a factor in her last three outings, the stocky spiker finally stood out in leading the UST Tigresses to a 25-9, 31-29, 25-19 win over Adamson on Sunday in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The third-year opposite spiker from Cebu made her presence felt for UST with 13 points, from 10 kills and three service aces, after scoring a grand total of 20 points in her previous three outings.
“At least 'yung Dimdim Pacres, nagigising na 'yung taba niya, dati natutulog," Reyes joked after the match. "Oo kasi, masyadong malamig eh. Ngayon gumagalaw na, (dati) pagkatapos kumain, gusto matutulog lang.”
Turning serious, the outspoken mentor shared how the entire team is helping motivate Pacres.
“‘Yung teammates niya, sinabihan nila si Dimdim from their end. So suddenly, may nagsalitang mas bata, ‘Kayong mga seniors, kailangan niyo mag-step up. Hindi namin kakayanin ito, kailangan natin magtulong-tulong,' which is true,” said Reyes.
Pacres admitted she's making a conscious effort to double the work on her game.
“Kasi noong past few days ko, sobrang frustrated ko kasi ‘yun nga, hindi ko mabalik-balik ang laro ko,” said Pacres. “(Ngayon) sobrang thankful ko kasi pinu-prove namin sa sarili namin na kaya namin.”
