BINAN CITY -- Altay VC of Kazakhstan came back from a set down to overcome Sarmayeh Bank of Iran, 20-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-15, and book a ticket to the semifinals of the 2016 AVC Asian Women’s Club Championship on Friday at Alonte Sports Arena here.
Altay VC earned the right to face Ba’yi Shenzheng of China in the knockout semifinals on Saturday.
Alessya Safronova had 15 points for Kazakhstan, while Sana Anarkulova added 11 markers and Kristina Anikonova contributed nine.
It was a close match as Altay VC had a slim lead in attacks (44-42) and it was an even contest at the net (10-10 blocks). Kazakhstan was three points behind in service aces (6-9) but Sarmayeh Bank's 35 errors gave Altay VC extra points.
Farnoosh Sheikhi made 15 points, anchored on 10 kills, for Sarmayeh Bank, while Maedeh Borhani Esfahani added 11 markers, from 10 attacks, and Mahsa Saberi had 10.
Iran was relegated to the classification phase for 5th to 8th spot and will take on Foton Pilipinas on Saturday.
