KATH Arado relishes all the lessons she’s been getting from fellow libero Dawn Macandili in their team-up in the women’s national volleyball pool.

From being rivals in the UAAP and Philippine Superliga, Arado was grateful to team-up with Macandili as she has been learning new things from her fellow defensive specialist, who already made a mark since joining the national team in 2017.

“Masaya po tsaka ang dami kong natututunan kay ate Dawn kasi sobrang passionate niya sa ginagawa niya,” said the University of the East standout on the former UAAP Finals MVP of De La Salle.

“Very open kami ni ate Dawn pag may sinasabi siya tinatake ko talaga kasi minsan lang ‘to e. Sobrang humble ni ate Dawn,” she added.

In Arado’s first women’s national team stint during the Thailand training camp and ASEAN Grand Prix first leg, the more-experienced Macandili was always there to guide her.

“Roomie, buddy kami magkasama kami all through out nung nasa Thailand,” said the Generika-Ayala libero. “Ang laking bagay na kami magkasama kasi ang dami kong natututunan sa kanya tsaka ang galing niya magmotivate ng player nakakatuwa tsaka maapply ko yun sa (mga susunod na games and tournaments).”

Arado and Macandili worked together in receiving and digging the strong hits of the top players from Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.

That’s why the former national youth team member learned a lot from their bronze finish in the first leg of the Asean Grand Prix.

“Yung nasa isip ko nung nandoon ako andami ko pang pwedeng matutunan kasi yung galaw nila mabilis, mautak kasi mga beterano na sila,” said the libero, who hails in Iligan City.

“Magandang panimula siya sa amin kasi nakalaban namin sila. Malaking bagay sa amin na nakukuha namin yung mga galaw nila and yung galaw namin as a team.”

As the national team continues its build-up for the 30th Southeast Asian Games with the upcoming Sta. Rosa Laguna leg of the Asean Grand Prix and Japan training camp, Arado is just proud to serve the country again.

“Nakakainspire, nakakaproud at the same time may pressure din siyempre iba yung junior time ko sa national team dito sa senior,” said Arado. “Pero nangingibabaw yung pagiging proud kasi bihira lang yung i-represent mo yung bansa.”
