FILIPINA-Americans Kalei Mau, Alohi Robins-Hardy and Iris Tolenada are set to represent the Philippines for the first time as they banner the 16-member national women’s team in the Southeast Asian Grand Prix in Thailand.
Mau leads the wing spikers in the team also featuring Alyssa Valdez, Frances Molina, Aiza Pontillas, Mylene Paat and Jovelyn Gonzaga in the tournament set from September 20 to 22 in Nakhon Ratchasima.
Robins-Hardy and Tolenada headline the Filipina setters with Jia Morado as well as Eya Laure, who was listed as spiker and playmaker in the event also featuring teams from Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.
Aby Maraño is the team captain and heads middle blockers Majoy Baron, Maddie Madayag and Roselyn Doria, while the liberos are Dawn Macandili and Kath Arado.
Larong Volleyball Sa Pilipinas Inc. president Joey Romasanta announced the lineup on Thursday.
Tolenada, Valdez and other PVL players will not be able to join the team leaving on Saturday for Thailand to start training.
Morado, Madayag, Laure and Gonzaga will leave the country on Sept. 15.
Morado is in the hospital due to stomach flu and was not able to join the 15 players at practice on Wednesday at the Arellano University gym.
