UNIVERSITY of the Philippines wing spiker Justine Dorog aggravated a recurring jumper’s knee injury in their match against Arellano University in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
Dorog hurt her knee after a bad fall in the fourth set, when UP was ahead 32-31.
Still, the third year Lady Maroons standout played through pain in the fourth set but did not see action in the fifth set as UP lost the match, 25-22, 10-25, 19-25, 34-32, 3-15.
“Actually, may jumper's knee na kasi ako dati. Kasi nag-run ako tapos mali 'yung pag-land ko pero 'di ko napansin tapos paglipat ko ng puwesto dun na siya bumigay,” she said. “'Yun lang naman for now pero magpapa-check pa ako sa Monday kung ano ba talaga mayroon.”
“Matagal na 'to eh. Hindi ko matandaan. Pero nagpapa-treat naman ako. (therapy). Mga last year (ko nakuha ang jumper's knee) sa UAAP,” she added.
Dorog, though, still wanted to play in the fifth set and help the team’s semis chances alive but all she could do is to watch her team from the sideline.
“Kasi kailangan namin kunin talaga 'yung game as in do or die po,” said the Lady Maroon.
“As in sobrang sakit (ng tuhod ko). Hindi na ako makatalon. Pero sa isip ko na kailangan namin 'to and kailangan nila ako. Dapat fifth set papasok ako pero pagtayo ko bumigay na talaga,” she said.
Dorog was limping on her way out of the venue but she insisted that she can walk on her own.
UP ended its campaign with a 3-2 win-loss record and blew the chance to join the Final Four.
