JOSE Rizal University and University of Perpetual Help took down separate foes to earn their respective second straight wins in the NCAA Season 94 women’s volleyball tournament on Monday at the Arena in San Juan City.

The JRU Lady Bombers needed to fight their way back from a 1-2 deficit before denying Mapua University from ending its two-year winning drought, 24-26, 25-20, 20-25, 25-16, 15-9.

Dolly Grace Verzosa unleashed 20 points all coming from spikes and had 18 digs to show the way for the Lady Bombers. Rizza Rose delivered 14 hits, Karen Montojo contributed an all-around effort with 12 points including 19 digs and 11 excellent receptions, while Mary May Ruiz added 11 markers.

The Lady Altas, meanwhile, bucked a lethargic first-set loss before trouncing Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates, 17-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-12.

Cindy Imbo led Perpetual Help with 16 points including 14 digs and nine excellent receptions, while Shyra Umandal and Jowie Albert Versoza chipped in 14 and 12 hits, respectively.

Both JRU and Perpetual Help improved to identical 2-2 win-loss records tied at fifth place.

Mikaela Rafael and Cherilyn Sindayen had 20 and 13 points, respectively for the Lady Pirates, who dropped to 1-3 record.

Mapua, on the other hand, failed to end its two-year winning drought despite the gallant stand against JRU. Angelie Magundayao had 15 points, while Andrea Morano and Jonina Fernandez added 11 and 10 markers, respectively, as the Lady Cardinals slid to 0-4 slate.
