LA Salle regained a share of the lead and got back at University of Santo Tomas with a 25-11, 25-13, 25-17 victory on Saturday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Spikers scored their seventh victory in nine matches, joining idle Ateneo on top.

Kim Dy and the La Salle side also avenged a stunning three-set first-round loss to the UST, dealing the Tigresses their fifth loss in nine outings.

It was the second straight victory for the Lady Spikers, and a much convincing one after a shaky five-set squeaker over Far Eastern University last week.

The Tigresses, on the other hand, looked much different from the UST squad that did not drop a set in its two previous matches.

UST saw its win streak end at two and are stuck in joint fifth with the National University Lady Bulldogs.

Dy led the way for La Salle with 12 points, while Mika Reyes and Ara Galang each had 11 markers in the match that lasted an hour and 17 minutes.

“Maganda lang ang gising siguro kasi one week din kaming nakapagpahinga para sa game na ito kaya medyo saka kita ko naman sa mga bata gusto talaga makabawi,” said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus.

“Siguro nawalan din ng receive ’yung UST kasi first round kasi halos lahat ng services namin ang gaganda ng basa nila at the same time siguro hindi lang talaga na-aral ng mga bata ang UST noong first time kaming magkita,” De Jesus added, noting that aside from regaining share of the lead now, they needed the win to avoid complications in case of ties at the end of eliminations.

“Kaya ngayon ayaw talagang magpatalo sabi ko kasi pag kinakailangan niyo ’yung panalo against UST noong first round posibleng ’yun ’yung indahin ng team pag nagkaroon ng tie so sabi ko sana ’wag na maulit,” he said.

UST hitters were held to single digit as EJ Laure finished with eight points and Sisi Rondina delivered seven markers. Laure had eight digs and seven excellent receptions, while Rondina had 12 digs and 10 excellent receptions.
