JOVELYN Gonzaga is set for her women’s national volleyball team comeback as she and middle blockers Maddie Madayag and Roselyn Doria were added to the pool after several members have withdrawn.
The Larong Volleyball Sa Pilipinas Inc. is facing availability setbacks from the pool as Jaja Santiago is likely skipping the 30th Southeast Asian Games as Ageo Medics didn’t allow her, while Cignal’s do-it-all setter Alohi Robins-Hardy is also uncertain as she is still processing her Philippine passport.
National team head coach Shaq Delos Santos bared to Spin.ph that Tots Carlos, Celine Domingo, Jema Galanza, Jerrili Malabanan and Angel Cayuna have already withdrawn from the pool.
That’s why the national team coaching staff and LVPI decided to add more players with Gonzaga, who will try to earn her third SEA Games appearance after missing the 2018 Asian Games due to ACL injury, as well as reigning UAAP Best Middle Blockers Madayag and Doria.

Kim Fajardo was also considered but Delos Santos said that the F2 Logistics setter has yet to fully recover from her finger injury.
Delos Santos said that Gonzaga, Madayag and Doria already expressed their commitment to the pool, joining skipper Aby Maraño, Kalei Mau, Alyssa Valdez, Mika Reyes, Majoy Baron, Denden Lazaro, Frances Molina, Jia Morado, Mylene Paat, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Dindin Manabat, and Dawn Macandili as well as collegiate standouts Kath Arado and Eya Laure.
The pool will have a 12-day training camp in Thailand and is set to fly on Saturday before seeing action in the Southeast Asian Grand Prix in Nakhon Ratchasima from September 20 to 22.
