COLLEGE of St. Benilde edged Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-22, 21-25, 16-25, 25-22, 15-13, on Monday to chalk up a win in the round robin quarterfinals of the Spikers’ Turf Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Skipper Johnvic de Guzman scored 25 points, 21 from spikes, as the Blazers improved their win-loss record to 1-3. Teams’ elimination-round wins over also-rans are not carried over to the quarterfinals, thus the Blazers’ victories over Arellano and La Salle-Dasmarinas have been omitted.
Racmade Etrone scored 14 points and Isaah Arda added 12 for St. Benilde.
It was a close battle in attacks, with EAC winding up above by just a hairline, 56-57. The Generals made more block points, 12-8, and service aces, 9-3, but committed 35 miscues compared to 29 by the Blazers.
NCAA Most Valuable Player Howard Mojica had 35 points for EAC, which holds a 2-2 record.
