PLDT is one win away from the semifinals of the 2018 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference Men’s Division after beating Philippine Army, 25-14, 26-24, 25-20, on Saturday at Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
John Vic de Guzman led the onslaught for the Ultra Fast Hitters, uncorking 10 points built on eight kills and two blocks.
Mark Gil Alfafara and Kheeno Franco provided the support for PLDT as they both had nine points.
Dominant in the first set, the Ultra Fast Hitters were shocked when the Troopers fought back and even led, 23-22, before PLDT settled down and used a 4-1 run to take the tight set win.
PLDT then went for the kill in the third set, taking a six-point lead, 20-14 before cruising to the straight-set victory.
For coach Odjie Mamon, the win was more about PLDT showing improved chemistry, moving closer to the Final Four with a 2-0 card.
“Mas nagkaka-chemistry na yung team,” he said. “Kailangan talaga namin maging sure yung jelling namin for us to really reach our potential.”
The Ultra Fast Hitters can formalize their entry to the semifinals with a win over Air Force next Saturday.
Antonio Torres led winless Philippine Army (0-2) with 10 points, while PJ Rojas had nine.
