POCARI Sweat-Air Force disposed the Iriga City-Navy Oragons, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-22, to remain unbeaten in the round-robin quarterfinals of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference on Wednesday at the FilOil Arena in San Juan City.
The Lady Warriors bagged their second straight win to move on top of the quarterfinals and just two wins away from advancing to the semifinals of the women’s tournament, while Navy dropped to the last spot with 0-2.
American imports Madeline Palmer and Arielle Love led the victory, with the former topscoring with 19 points, from 16 attacks, two blocks, and an ace, and the latter following with 18 excellent spikes.
Pocari coach Jasper Jimenez reminded his team to stay all-out and keep its no-mercy attitude as they next face a contender in the BanKo Perlas Spikers on Saturday.
"Kailangan yung kompiyansa namin sa sarili, kasi minsan nawawala eh... First serve namin is very important. We need to have a strong start," he said.
The scoring started early for the Iriga Oragons as they conquered the first set by breaking away from 21-all deadlock, before misfiring late.
Jimenez admitted a few lapses in the beginning,
"Siguro kailangan muna nila masaktan," he said as Pocari finally flexed their muscles in the second set to quickly control the pace.
At match point in the fourth set, a powerful spike by Palmer sealed the win for Air Force.
Skipper Macy Ubben posted a notable 27 points, from 23 attacks and four blocks to lead the Lady Oragons, while Lauren Whyte contributed 16 spikes and two blocks in a losing effort.
