ATENEO skipper Jia Morado was pleased to see rookie Jules Samonte deliver in an important match against archrival La Salle.
Thrust into the spotlight as Jhoana Maraguinot was again held out, to be rested according to Ateneo, Samonte came up with several huge hits in the Lady Eagles’ four-set win that earned them the No. 1 spot in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament.
Maraguinot was out for the second straight match, but Morado was not too worried of the young replacement, setting up Samonte who wound up with 10 huge points.
“Ginagawa niya yun sa training,” Morado said. “Sobrang lakas niya sa training.”
“Before the game pa lang, sinabihan na siya namin na, ‘Jules, if coach uses you today, wag kang matakot kasi you are a rookie and nothing is expected of you but to play your hundred percent. Okay lang magkamali,’” Morado said.
“She took that to heart talaga, and nagulat kami sa nilaro niya, at nagdeliver siya,” she added.
“To bring it to the game ng hindi ka masyadong ginagamit ni coach Tai, that’s something talaga,” Morado said.
