HAIL to the Queen Tamaraw.
Rachel Anne Daquis has joined an elite group of Far Eastern University athletes after her jersey was retired on Tuesday at the FEU gym in R. Papa St., Manila.
The star of the FEU team that won the UAAP championship in 2008 became the first volleyball player in the school’s history to have her jersey raised to the rafters.
Her No. 3 jersey now hangs alongside the No. 14 kit of Johnny Abarrientos and the No. 19 jersey of Arwind Santos at the school gym.
Daquis said her journey to get to to where she is now was in no way easy.
"Hindi ako nagmadali, nag-training ako ng mabuti, gigising ako ng alas-kwatro ng madaling araw, mage-LRT kami ng daddy ko (tapos) training ng umaga, training ng hapon kasi may gusto ako ma-achieve," the volleybelle from Taytay, Rizal said during her speech.
“(And) FEU ang tumulong sa akin para makamit ko yung dream ko na ‘yun," she added as tears started to well in her eyes while reminiscing her days in the yellow and green.
Daquis was joined by her father Melchor, former coach Kid Santos, FEU athletic director Mark Molina, and FEU representative to the UAAP board Anton Montinola during the ceremony.
