BALIPURE remained in hunt for the last semis berth after it disposed of Adamson University, 25-18, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20, in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Far Eastern University ace Jerrili Malabanan led the way for the Water Defenders with 16 points, Grethcel Soltones had 14 markers, 14 digs and 19 excellent receptions, while National University stalwart Risa Sato chipped in 10 points.

The Water Defenders improved to 3-3, tied for fourth with BanKo-Perlas.

“Masama situation namin, ’di maganda nilalaro ng mga bata, ilang laro na ’yan. Nahihirapan din sila kasi di kagaya ng nakaraan nakakaensayo kami maayos,” said BaliPure coach Roger Gorayeb.

The Water Defenders started the conference with a 2-1 record but absorbed back-to-back five-set defeats that put them on the brink of elimination.

“Wala kaming magagawa, kailangan naming umayos kung gusto namin umabot ng top four, naawa din ako pero (sa mga bata) ’di pwedeng gawing excuse,” said Gorayeb, whose college wards have a twice-a-day practice.
