FORMER Ateneo star JC Intal is one proud brother after Rex Intal and the rest of the Blue Eagles won the school's maiden UAAP men’s volleyball championship.
The elder Intal cut short his stint in the PBA All-Stars in Puerto Princesa, Palawan to personally cheer at courtside for the Blue Eagles as they made history on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Katipunan-based spikers dethroned back-to-back champion National University by winning Game Two, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-15, and completing a sweep of the finals, in the process avenging last year’s Finals loss.
Spin.ph caught up with the Intal brothers as they posed for a selfie shortly after the match.
“I’m really proud of him, his team, for what they did for Ateneo,” said the Barako Bull forward. “Actually I was in Palawan (because) the (PBA) All Stars is until Monday, but I came back agad just to support him.”
Intal himself won a championship with the Blue Eagles during his rookie year in 2002. And being an athlete himself, JC knows the hardwork his younger brother has put in just to excel in his sport.
“They practice twice or thrice a day during their off season. So it really paid off,” he said.
