JTEKT Stings win five-set thriller over Marck Espejo’s FC Tokyo

JTEKT Stings were made to work this time, repeating over Marck Espejo and FC Tokyo but getting stretched 25-17, 22-25, 23-25, 27-25, 15-11 in Japan V.League on Sunday at the Panasonic Arena.

Import Luiz Fonteles unleashed 26 points from 19 spikes, four blocks and three aces, leading the Stings’ comeback from 1-2 match deficit.

It was tough outing for JTEKT after a straight-sets victory over FC Tokyo on Saturday.

Kento Miyaura had 14 points off 11 attacks, two aces and a block, while Go Murayama added 10 including four kill blocks.

JTEKT improved its win-loss record to 3-1, while keeping Tokyo winless in four matches.

Marck EspejoMarck Espejo's Japan V.League team remains in search for a win this season.

It was Tokyo’s third five-set loss including back-to-back defeats to defending champion Suntory last week.

Espejo led Tokyo with 19 points on 18 attacks and a kill block. Yuga Nagamoto delivered 18 points, Jonas Kvalen had 17 points built on 14 spikes, two blocks and an ace, while Hideyuki Kuriyama added 10.

FC Tokyo faces Nagoya (3-1) next week.
