THE Philippine women’s volleyball team finally fielded a full squad but could not get the win against Japan’s Toray Arrows, bowing, 26-24, 25-16, 25-11, 25-18, 21-19, in a friendly on Sunday in Thailand.
PVL players Jia Morado, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Maddie Madayag and Eya Laure arrived on Sunday afternoon and were tested right away in the tune-up match.
But the Japan V.Premier League club, Dindin Santiago-Manabat’s former team, eked out the win, dealing the Philippines its third defeat in five friendlies.
The Philippines lost then drew with the Under-23 Thailand team, bowed to the Thai national women’s squad before scoring a victory over Bangkok University.
The Filipina Spikers will have another tune-up against Toray Arrows on Tuesday before they travel to Korat on Wednesday before the Southeast Asian Grand Prix from Sept. 20 to 22.
The national pool is now complete as the PVL players joined Aby Maraño, Kalei Mau, Alohi Robins-Hardy, Ces Molina, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Majoy Baron, Mylene Paat, Roselyn Doria, Kath Arado and Dawn Macandili.
Assistant coach KungFu Reyes arrived with the second batch of players, joining head coach Shaq Delos Santos.
