INTERNATIONAL opportunities keep coming for Jaja Santiago.

The National University star and national team mainstay has recently received an invitation to join the tryouts for various clubs in Korean Volleyball League.

The 6-foot-5 spiker has already filled up the application forms for the tryouts set in Italy from May 3 to 5, but has yet to make a decision on whether to make the trip or not.

Scheduling, for one, figures to be a problem.

The NU Lady Bulldogs are currently on a downhill spiral in the UAAP Season 80 tournament, winless through five games in the second round of the eliminations after a rousing 6-1 campaign in the first round.

The UAAP will already be on its finals week during the time of the tryouts while Santiago's team in the Philippine Super Liga (PSL), Foton, will also be entering a crucial stretch in its campaign.

“Kaya hindi pa kami makapag-decide kasi committed pa si Jaja sa NU tapos after naman nito (UAAP) sa Foton naman siya,” said Diane Santiago, her elder sister and the team manager of Foton.

The KVL invitation is just the latest for the prodigious 22-year-old, who, as an incoming rookie at NU five years ago, was offered an athletic scholarship at the University of California Los Angeles.

Last year, Thai powerhouse club team Bangkok Glass also made a bold offer to the do-it-all spiker.

    She declined both offers.

However, Jaja's camp knows the tryouts can be a golden opportunity for the towering national team mainstay to showcase her talent before KVL coaches, team managers and agents.

“International agent ang nag-invite kay Jaja para doon sa open tryouts,” confirmed Diane Santiago.

Meanwhile, Serbian coach Moro Branislav, Jaja’s former coach at Foton, expressed his willingness to help her get into a European team to hone her talent.

Branislav, in fact, was very vocal in saying that it would be best for Jaja to play in Europe instead of playing in the US or in Asia.

“Si coach Moro naman sabi niya na matutulungan niya si Jaja na makahanap ng team (sa Europe),” said Diane. “Pero sabi rin niya na ‘wag mag expect (na makalaro agad) pero makakatulong daw ‘yun para mas mahasa si Jaja.”
