NATIONAL University star Jaja Santiago urged her teammates to use their pain as motivation to get back on track in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament.
The do-it-all spiker along with the rest of the Lady Bulldogs were reduced to tears after their four-set loss to University of Santo Tomas before the Holy Week break that sent them on a four-game losing slump.
But Santiago insisted that NU is far from done.
“Hindi naman iyak yun na parang give up na. Iyak yun na nasasaktan kasi siyempre natatalo ka,” she said on Tuesday after she watched Foton’s game against Cignal in the Philippine Super Liga.
“Pero ‘yung sakit na ‘yan, sabi ko nga sa kanila, ang gawin nating stepping stone para makuha ang goal natin. Gagamitin natin para manalo tayo sa susunod na games natin, para maging strong tayo,” she added.
NU, which ended the first round at the No. 1 spot with a 6-1 win-loss card, is yet to win a match in the second round.
The Lady Bulldogs, who are currently at the fourth spot with a 6-5 record, will face University of the Philippines (3-8) on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
Santiago admitted that doubts started creeping in as the slump went on, but the NU star stayed optimistic that the Lady Bulldogs can overcome adversity and regain confidence.
“Kailangan talagang maging strong ang mental toughness ng bawat isa,” she said.
