JASMIN Nabor scored three straight service aces as National University turned back Ateneo, 25-19, 25-19, 20-25, 12-25, 15-7, in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
Jaja Santiago led the Lady Bulldogs with 26 points, while Nabor had 11 markers, including seven of the team’s 13 service aces, and registered all of NU’s 29 excellent sets in the one-hour and 41-minute match.
NU coach Babes Castillo could not help but smile as he talked about the match.
“Kapag may character ka na ganoon at lalo na kung lahat sila ganoon maganda ang managyayari,” said the outspoken mentor.
“Kanina ipinakita nila na sometimes when you lose that’s when you win and I think that’s what happened in the third and fourth sets eh,” he added.
“When we lost we won kasi nakita nila na we have to bank on our character, we have to bank on our attitude,” he continued.
NU used a 6-2 run to take the lead, 10-6, in the fifth set and went on to post their second win in as many matches.
Jhoanna Maraguinot pushed Ateneo to within 7-10 but the Lady Bulldogs earned extra points from the Lady Eagles’ back-to-back errors as Nabor delivered the finishing touches.
Maraguinot scored 16 for Ateneo, Kat Tolentino had 12 points and Ponggay Gaston added 10.
Ateneo remained winless in two matches, tied with University of the East, its worst start under two-time champion coach Tai Bundit, who took over in Season 76.
