JAJA Santiago helped Ageo Medics sweep Dindin Santiago-Manabat and Kurobe AquaFairies, 25-15, 25-23, 25-13, in the second meeting of the Filipina sisters in Japan V Premier League on Saturday.
Ageo Medics banked on a balanced attack led by Simone Lee, who unleashed 21 points. Santiago had eight markers off six attacks and two blocks.
Santiago and Ageo Medics asserted their mastery over Manabat’s Kurobe, duplicating their four-set victory during their first duel last November.
Ageo Medics improved to a 10-6 win-loss record for fifth place and will take on league leader JT Marvelous (14-3) on Sunday.
Kurobe dropped its 16th game in 17 outings, reeling at the bottom place of the 12-team field.
After facing her sister, Manabat and Aquafairies battle her former squad Toray Arrows (11-5) on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Bryan Bagunas unleashed 19 points in his return in the league, only for Oita Miyoshi to absorb a 28-30, 18-25, 22-25 defeat to Toray.
Bagunas missed two matches in the men’s V-League due to his national team duties, where he led Philippines to a historic silver medal finish in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Buoyed by the achievement of his country, the Filipino Spiker, who arrived last Wednesday, poured in 17 attacks, a block and an ace only for Weisse Adler to fall in a tight three-set encounter.
Oita Miyoshi suffered its 12th defeat in 13 games and will try to bounce back against FC Tokyo (3-11) on Sunday.
