UNIVERSITY of the Philippines ended its campaign on a winning note, beating Power Smashers, 25-17, 21-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-11, in a battle of also-rans on Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Diana Carlos scored 23 for the Lady Maroons, who finished the conference with a 2-5 win-loss record.
Isa Molde had 19 points, while Aiesha Gannaban added 10 markers for UP.
“Masaya (and feeling) importante (ang panalo) kasi syempre momentum ’yan going to the next conference,” said UP coach Jerry Yee, who returned to his post shortly after announcing his resignation two weeks ago.
“We like what we saw although may mga iffy moments na nag-aalangan sila, tentative pa tayo so we have to improve on that,” he added.
Yee could not help but look back on matches they could have won but said it will serve as motivation for the Collegiate Conference, set to start on September 2.
“We would’ve wanted to win more games, may mga close game na nasayang, charge to experience na lang,” he said.
Arellano University’s Regine Arocha and Jovelyn Prado had 18 and 15 points, respectively, for the Power Smashers, while University of Sto. Tomas’ Mary Dominique Pacres added 12.
The Power Smashers ended its campaign with a 1-6 win-loss record.
