THE timing could be just right for Alyssa Valdez’s recovery and the start of the Southeast Asian Grand Prix, but she says it would be unfair to other Philippine women's team members who worked hard in training camp if she takes a roster spot.
Valdez has been advised by her doctor to rest her injured right foot and undergo therapy for a week. And exactly on the seventh day of her recovery, on Sept. 20, the SEA Grand Prix fires off.
The Creamline skipper is leaving the decision to coaches and team management.
“It would be unfair kasi I really had no time to prepare also with the team. If I’m allowed to play it’s really the call of the coaches also and the management if I’ll be able to be a part and join the team,” said Valdez.

“We’re hoping for the best na siyempre to really represent the country and be there to support this girls.”
“It will depend sa X-ray so I cannot diagnose or asses kung ano talaga ang nangyari sa paa ko,” said Valdez.
Valdez and other Premier Volleyball League players Jia Morado, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Maddie Madayag and Eya Laure are set to leave for Bangkok on Sunday.
Already in Thailand are Aby Maraño, Kalei Mau, Alohi Robins-Hardy, Ces Molina, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Majoy Baron, Mylene Paat, Roselyn Doria, Kath Arado and Dawn Macandili.
Valdez injured her right foot after landing on Fille Cainglet-Cayetano’s foot from a block attempt in Thursday’s practice.
“Probably this is the first time people also saw me na di na talaga pinalaro. Nakaapak talaga ako,” said Valdez, who was in uniform but didn’t play for Creamline on Saturday. “First time ko rin nakaapak coming from a jump so medyo nanibago lang siguro ang paa ko.”
“I saw Doc (Raul) Canlas yesterday he advised me to rest for seven days, active rest and therapy lang talaga,” said Valdez. “Not advisable raw to go (to Thailand) kasi yung pressure sa plane baka mag-swell din ang paa.”

“Namamaga pa rin but for the past three days way better. Nu’ng first day talaga can’t walk din but now I can walk na. Mas tolerable na yung pain,” she said. “Hopefully mas mabilis din ang recovery. Everyday, almost whole day nagte-therapy din ako para mawala ang swelling at mawala ang pain.”
