THE Shakey’s Girls’ Volleyball League unwraps its 10th season on Friday at the Rizal Coliseum with Hope Christian High School out to defend its National Capital Region leg title against nine other squads.
The Hope Christian tossers open their title-retention bid against the comebacking Miriam College, the reigning WNCAA champion, at 2 p.m. after the 1 p.m. clash between Colegio San Agustin and Angelicum College.
Academy of God’s Children of Marikina City and Gen. Pio del Pilar National High tangle at 3 p.m. in a duel of newcomers while King’s Montessori School faces Pasay City West HS at 4 p.m., capping an explosive four-game bill.
Regional qualifiers for Central Luzon, Northern Luzon, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Western Visayas, and Mindanao will also be staged simultaneously with the NCR leg, with the winners advancing to the Tournament of Champions set January 22-26.
Spicing up the finale is the participation of Australia’s Victoria High School team, according to tournament director Johanz Buenvenida.
The organizing Metro Sports and sponsoring Shakey’s Pizza have also tapped the Rizal Memorial Coliseum as the tournament’s new home to draw more crowds.
The NCR field is divided into two groups with Hope Christian leading Pool A that also includes MGC New Life Christian Academy, Miriam College, Academy of God’s Children of Marikina City and Gen. Pio del Pilar National HS.
Colegio San Agustin, last year’s third placer and the reigning Palarong Pambansa champion, heads Pool B that includes Angelicum College, Kings’ Montessori School, St. James Academy, and newcomer Pasay City West High School.
