HOPE Christian College and De La Salle-Zobel face off in Pool A as University of Santo Tomas seeks its second straight win in Pool B when it takes on MGC New Life Christian Academy on Sunday in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League Season 11 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Hope Christian College tossers thwarted Jubilee Christian Academy, 25-8, 25-21, while the Zobel spikers repulsed Miriam College, 25-10, 25-19, last week for their second straight victories in the single round robin tournament.
Hope and DLS-Zobel tangle at 3 p.m. after the 2 p.m. match between UST and MGC New Life Christian Academy. Kings’ Montessori School and Jubilee Christian Academy clash at 4 p.m. while National U and St. Scholastica’s College battle at 5 p.m.
St. Scholastica’s College bounced back from its opening day setback to Angelicum with a 25-15, 25-16 victory over MGC New Life Christian Academy, while tournament favorite National U also rebounded from its three-set loss to UST with a 25-15, 25-16 romp over Angelicum.
The top two teams in each side will clash in the crossover semifinals on Nov. 10 with the winners disputing the crown and the lone berth in the Tournament-of-Champions of the event backed by Mikasa, Asics, Tune Hotel, Burlington, BioFresh, Food Health and Science Magazine.
Ten teams, divided into two groups, are vying in the tournament, one of the eight regional tournaments. The top teams will meet in the Tournament of Champions featuring guest teams from Australia and New Zealand.
University of San Jose-Recoletos, Central Philippine University, Leyte National High School and Angeles University Foundation ruled their elimination events to book their places in the Tournament of Champions set Jan. 13 to 17.
The Mindanao eliminations will be held Nov. 14 to 17 in Davao, the Northern Luzon leg will be played on Nov. 21 to 24 in Baguio, while the Southern Luzon tournament is set Nov. 27 to 30 in Imus City, Cavite.
