HONEY Royse Tubino came up with a monster game as Cignal downed PLDT Home TVolution, 25-20, 25-23, 18-25, 25-17, on Wednesday for its first win in the Philippine Super Liga All Filipino Conference at Cuneta Astrodome.
The former University of Perpetual Help standout poured in 26 points as the HD Spikers finally won after four losses although still in the bottom of the seven-team field.
Sasa Devanadera and Lou Ann Latigay had 18 and 17 markers, respectively, for PLDT, which absorbed its third straight loss and dropped to joint fifth with Cagayan Valley (2-4).
“Never say die lang, kailangan lang namin bumawi, kailangan lang naming maniwala sa team,” said the NCAA reigning MVP Tubino.
Tubino bounced back from her nine-point production in their straight-sets loss to Generika-Army a week ago.
“Ang sabi ko sa kanila once na manalo tayo ng isa there is a big chance that we can win another game,” said Cignal coach Sammy Acaylar.
Aby Praca and Danika Gendrauli contributed 13 and 10 markers, each for Cignal.
Down by two sets, the Power Attackers pulled away from a 7-8 deficit, using a 9-0 run to snatch the lead, 16-8, and win the set.
But Cignal started the fourth set strong, getting ahead, 8-2, and never giving PLDT a chance.
Cignal clearly outplayed PLDT on the defensive end as the HD Spikers had more excellent digs (44-36), had five more perfect sets (35-30) and had the floor covered better with 37 excellent reception against 29 of the Power Attackers.
