HOLY Rosary College claimed the last ticket to the semifinals after ousting Leyte National High School, 25-16, 25-17, in the last day of elimination in Rebisco Volleyball League National Championship Girls 18-and-under tournament on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
After absorbing their first loss to Pool B sweeper Bacolod Tay Tung High School last Wednesday, the southern Luzon champion vented its ire on the Eastern Visayas titlist and shattered its semis hopes with Aliah Marce doing the damage for Holy Rosary with 10 points built on eight kills and a pair of service aces.
Holy Rosary College finished Pool B at second place with a 4-1 win-loss record and forged a knockout semifinals duel against unbeaten Pool A leader Kings’ Montessori (5-0), which took down Hawaii’s Aloha Region Juniors Team (4-1) in three sets, 26-28, 25-18, 25-20, earlier.
Bacolod Tay Tung High School ,which swept all five teams in Pool B capped by a 25-20, 23-25, 25-23 victory over New Zealand’s Z-Air Maori, will take on Aloha Region Juniors Team in the other semis pairing at 10 a.m. right after the Kings’ and Holy Rosary match at 9 a.m.
The winners will advance to the winner-take-all National Finals at 3 p.m., while the losers will clash for Bronze in the 1 p.m. battle for third place.
Leyte National High school settled for third place in Pool B finishing with a 2-3 record gird with idle Malaysia’s Sarawak U-18 (2-3), while New Zealand’s Z-Air Maori (1-4) and St. Alexius College (1-4) were the bottom two of their group.
In Pool A, University of Mindanao Tagum and University of San Jose Recolletos ended their campaign on a positive note after beating separate foes to finish the tournament with identical 2-3 slates.
University of Mindanao-Tagum trounced Holy Family Academy (1-4) in three sets, 22-25, 25-22, 26-24, while University of San Jose Recolletos swept Cagayan De Oro National High School (1-3), 25-17, 25-19.
