Gracious Jaja Santiago says 'hardworking' Majoy Baron deserves UAAP MVP award

    May 6, 2017

JAJA Santiago said Majoy Baron deserved to win the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball MVP award as she moved to douse the controversy that followed the announcement of the winners.

Santiago received three trophies during the awards rites on Saturday as Best Scorer, Best Spiker, and Best Blocker and later played down the contention of some fans that she - and not Baron - should've been MVP.

Baron topped the statistical race to win the league's highest individual honor, beating out Ateneo spiker Michelle Morente and Santiago.

The National University standout agreed that Baron deserves to win the top individual award of the league because of the hardwork she put in this season.

“For me, Majoy Baron deserved the MVP award naman eh. Sa akin, parang alam natin ‘yung paghihirap ng tao,” said Santiago in an interview with reporters after receiving her awards.

Santiago urged fans to respect the winners of the awards.

Despite failing to win the trophy, the fourth-year player said taking three trophies in the awards is a special in itself as she expressed her gratitude to her NU teammates.

“Nakaka-wow,” said Santiago.
