FAR Eastern University beat San Sebastian College, 25-17, 25-21, 25-14, to start its campaign in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
Bernadeth Pons and Toni Rose Basas combined for 24 points for the Lady Tamaraws.
It was George Pascua’s first match as FEU women’s team head coach since being hired three months ago.
“Sabi ko nga sa kanila kailangan namin umpisahan ng maganda para matapos namin ng maganda and then ilabas nila ang maximum potential nila sa game,” said Pascua, who replaced Shaq delos Santos.
Celine Domingo had nine points, while Jeanette Villareal added eight and Jerrili Malabanan chipped in seven markers for the Lady Tamaraws.
Pascua is hoping to lift the Lady Tamaraws to the title in his first season as head coach. The last time they won a championship was three years ago in the V-League and nine years ago in the UAAP.
“Syempre champion ang goal kasi iba pa rin kapag nagchampion ka. ‘Yun naman ang objective ng team,” said the veteran mentor.
“Importante pa rin disiplina kasi ang magaling na player kailangan may disiplina, marunong sumunod,” he added.
Nikka Dalisay scored 10 points for San Sebastian.
