FAR Eastern University stalwart Geneveve Casugod denied rumors she has left the team after missing the Lady Tamaraws’ opening game in the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Collegiate Conference.
“Hindi po totoo lahat ‘yun (na umalis ako),” she told a handful of sportswriters waiting for her outside the team dugout at The Arena in San Juan shortly after FEU’s 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 25-16 win over defending NCAA champion Arellano.
“Hindi lang ako nakapunta (sa first game) kasi may importante rin akong ginawa tapos na-sprain rin ako sa right ankle,” added the FEU stalwart, who scored five points in the win.
Rumors the the Bacolod native was no longer with the team spread like wildfire when she didn’t show up for the Lady Tamaraws’ 25-20, 25-18, 25-10 beating of University of Batangas last July 11.
Making matter worse, FEU coach Shaq delos Santos answered with a curt ‘no comment’ when asked regarding Casugod’s whereabouts.
But the 6-foot middle blocker assured she is still part of FEU and will continue playing for the team despite her right ankle injury.
“Maglalaro pa rin po ako, masakit pa rin po siya (sprain) pero support lang and tape. Kaya ko naman po siya ilaro,” said Casugod.
Currently tied with National University (2-0) on top of Group A, FEU will face winless Polytechnic University of the Philippines on Saturday.
