TWO-time champion Army asserted its supremacy over twice runner-up Cignal HD, winning in straight sets in the Philippine Super Liga on Wednesday in a battle of last season’s top two teams.
Only it wasn’t a title showdown but a match between winless cellar-cwellers in the All-Filipino Conference.
Generika Army wound up the winner, 26-24, 25-11, 25-22, at the Cuneta Astrodome to improve to 1-2, while Cignal now has a 0-3 win-loss record.
Rachel Anne Daquis came up with 11 points, while Jovelyn Gonzaga added 10, as all but one of the Lady Troopers managed to score.
Despite breaking into the winning column, Generika-Army coach Rico de Guzman was unsatisfied, explaining that the players he expected to lead the way have not been able to deliver.
“Ang problema kasi di kami mabuo-buo sa practice, actually walang problema sa team, nasa players ang problema,” said de Guzman, although he refused to name them.
“Kailangan ayusin ang ugali, ang disiplina and ang focus sa loob ng court, lalo na ang matatanda dapat sila ang magdala ng laro,” he added.

The Lady Troopers recovered behind Ging Balse and Nene Bautista, and made it 24-20.
Danika Gendrauli and Honey Royse Tubino finished with nine points apiece for Cignal.
