GENERIKA-Ayala survived Sta. Lucia, 25-19, 23-25, 25-27, 25-18, 15-12, on Thursday in the Super Liga Invitational Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lifesavers, looking to salvage fourth place after missing the final phase featuring the top three local teams and a Japanese club, will next face Cocolife in the classification phase.
Skipper Geneveve Casugod had a career high 25 points for the Life Savers.
“Hangga’t maaari i-angat na natin pero ayaw ko muna magsabi fourth, third second, champion. ‘Yun muna ang goal namin hangga’t maart i-angat ang ranking namin,” said Generika-Ayala coach Francis Vicente.
The Life Savers fell behind by two sets when they squandered six set points in the third.
“Masyado silang naging complacent kanina, isa ‘yun sa mga lapses namin kapag alam nilang lamang na lamang na nagiging complacent sila so ‘yun ang dapat tanggalin namin dapat instil pa rin namin ang killer instinct,” said Generika coach Francis Vicente.
“But of course I’m happy because they are still tough and they will grow by themselves,” he said.
Fiola Ceballos scored 14, Angeli Araneta added 13 and Patty Orendain chipped in 11 for Generika.
Jannine Navarro and Lourdes Clemente combined for 26 markers for Sta. Lucia, which will face Cocolife on Friday.
