LA Salle middle blocker Mika Reyes revealed her ‘hashtag hugot’ moment after the Lady Spikers avenged their first-round loss to University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament.
The graduating La Salle stalwart was all smiles after her squad settled an old score by turning back the Tigresses, 25-11, 25-13, 25-17, at The Arena in San Juan on Saturday.
“Syempre ano eh, ano ba ang right term? Siguro hindi kami papayag na maulit ang nangyari ng first round kasi masakit talaga ‘yun," she said referring to their 21-25, 22-25, 21-25 loss to UST more than a week ago.
"Kaya talagang hugot kami na hindi na kami magpapatalo sa UST. Hashtag hugot talaga ako ngayon,” said the fair-skinned Lady Spiker.
Reyes, who considers UST spiker Jessey de Leon a dear friend, insisted that her swagger and confidence on the court were all part of her desire to win.
“Oo naman, syempre naman babawian ko si Jessey. ‘Di joke lang,” she said laughing.
“Mindset ko talaga babawi kami sa UST, ayun talaga. Walang best friend-best friend dito. Okay naman kami ni Jessey, wala kaming issue sa ganito, on-court lang ‘to,” she added.
The 21-year old La Salle star, who finished with 11 points, from six spikes, four blocks and one service ace, said she and the Lady Spikers are always looking for ways to improve.
At 7-2 (win-loss), La Salle is tied for the league lead with two-time finals tormentor Ateneo.
“I always do (extra work), ako kasi hindi ako nakukuntento sa isang win or sa isang game. Lagi kong hinahanapan ang sarili ko ng way para mag-improve,” she said.
