UNIVERSITY of the East athletic director Rod Roque noted that Francis Vicente had personal reasons why he opted to resign from his post as head coach of the Lady Warriors midway in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament.
Roque, who served as UE’s interim coach, said that Vicente tendered his resignation on Thursday, two days before their game against Far Eastern University on Saturday.
The UE official stressed that they respected Vicente’s decision and did not ask further questions to know more behind the sudden exit.
“Nag-leave lang siya personally, sabi lang niya sa amin, personal reason,” said Roque on Saturday. “Sabi lang niya sa amin, personal reason. So we didn’t bother to (ask) ‘ano yun, ano ‘yung dahilan?’”
“Rinespeto namin ‘yung gusto niya,” he added. “So gusto niyang personal reason, then ‘yun ‘yung sasabihin namin to everybody na gustong malaman. Wag na nating halungkatin pa.”
Roque also added that they have already a shortlist of coaches to replace Vicente but refused to name names.
“Actually we have coaches in mind already but then again ‘yung timing eh. It has to be perfect timing because may commitment pa ‘yung mga iba na nasa isip namin,” said Roque.
Roque had a decorated coaching career after he steered UE boys’ volleyball team to eight of the team’s 11 straight UAAP championships.
He also has five titles in the Palarong Pambansa with NCR team.
