ABY Marano was glad to see the De La Salle Lady Spikers regain their swagger in a shock straight-set victory over the Ateneo Lady Eagles on Saturday in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball.

The former La Salle spiker watched approvingly from ringside as the Lady Spikers wore their hearts on their sleeves in the match against the Lady Eagles, no different from Marano's days with the team a couple of years ago.

The highlight of the match came when Mika Reyes pulled off a single block on Ateneo star Alyssa Valdez then celebrated in style with a stare down and jiggle - exactly the way Marano liked it.

“Hindi sila ganun na ganun before. Ngayon, kada emotion nila, nakaka-wow!” said Marano.

“Napapasigaw ako kahit paos na ako na nangyari talaga ‘yun,” she added.

La Salle won in emphatic fashion on Saturday, ending Ateneo’s 24-game winning streak dating back to Marano’s final playing year in the 2013-2014 season via 25-22, 25-14, 25-18 win on Saturday.

Marano, who now plays for F2 Logistics in the Philippine Super Liga, said she was happy to see the barriers come down as the current Lady Spikers played with a lot of emotions on the floor.

“Nakikita ko na ngayon ‘yung swag nila. After nung nawala kami, medyo tinitimpla pa nila konti. Siguro nahihiya sila mag-express ng emotions," said Marano.

“But now, they are all seniors. Wala na silang hiya,” said Marano, breaking into a hearty laugh before clarifying her statement, lest she be misunderstood again.

“Hindi naman sa hiya. Nandoon na ‘yung motivation at malakas na ang loob nila kasi hinog na hinog na sila,” Marano added.
