THE FIVB has officially certified the results of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) elections held last November 30.

With the confirmation, Tony Boy Liao’s presidency will now be reflected in the official records of the sport’s world governing body.

The rest of the board is composed of local sporting officials Charo Soriano, Fr. Vic Calvo, Miko Vargas, Sherwin Maganda, Daniel Cong-o, Edward Lee, and Ma. Socorro Calleja.

In a letter sent by the FIVB to the PNVF and Liao on Friday, a copy of which was obtained by SPIN.ph, the global federation confirmed the election results following its standard governance check conducted for all national federations.

“The FIVB hereby informs you that the election process at the Philippine National Volleyball Federation satisfies the legal and administrative requirements in compliance with the FIVB Regulations,” the letter read, signed by FIVB Head of Legal and General Counsel Stephen Bock.

“Thus, the FIVB confirms that your elections are recognized by the FIVB and will update all of our records, including the FIVB website directory.”

Timely confirmation

Earlier this month, SPIN.ph learned of a brewing attempt to nullify the PNVF elections.

The party reportedly behind the move allegedly identified what it claimed to be a procedural loophole and was said to be considering using the technicality to have the elections declared void.

It remains unclear whether the effort will proceed, especially in light of the FIVB’s formal confirmation of the election process.

For now, the status quo remains at the PNVF, with Liao’s presidency receiving official recognition and clearance from the sport’s world governing body.
