FAR Eastern University shoots for its third consecutive win and capitalize on the low morale of University of the Philippines when they clash in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
FEU is riding on a two-game win streak after a four-set wins over University of the East and National University, while UP suffered its first loss after a 4-0 start with a demoralizing defeat to Ateneo, 14-25, 19-25, 21-25, on Sunday.
The Lady Tamaraws are currently tied with the NU Lady Bulldogs at the fourth spot with a 3-2 win-loss record behind UP (4-1), while defending champion La Salle and Ateneo are tied at the No. 1 spot with identical 5-1 win-loss cards.
“Hopefully itong winning streak magsimula ng magandang kumpiyansa. Lagi kong sinasabi sa mga players namin na itong last three games, kunin natin,” said Lady Tamaraws coach Shaq delos Santos.
“‘Wag tayong umasa sa second round, itong first round, dito tayo kumuha (ng panalo). Kung magkakaroon ng adjustment, I think hindi na masyadong mahirap para sa amin,” he added.
Delos Santos’ tactic to bench Toni Basas during their game against UE paid off in their win over NU as she topscored for FEU with 20 points.
The Lady Maroons, on the other hand, will try to recover from a stunning loss behind Diana Carlos and Isa Molde.
UP became careless and gave away 22 errors to Ateneo, which only had 14 miscues in the match that took an hour and 13 minutes to finish.
